The Crown Season 6 marks the end of an era, serving as the grand finale of this extraordinary saga. Our team is thrilled and fortunate to have been part of this incredible show once again.
Having contributed to Season 3, 4, and 5 with specialized tasks, our role in Season 6 took on a broader scope. We were involved across all 10 episodes, providing concept art for future VFX and creating matte paintings for various vendors. Our collaboration involved reporting directly to the overall VFX supervisor, Ben Turner, and VFX producer Reece Ewing. In this capacity, we crafted concept art not only to address narrative challenges but also to solve technical issues, ensuring a seamless execution of VFX. Our concepts were shared with multiple vendors, contributing to the creation of the final visuals.
Our involvement in Season 6 has been a remarkable experience, and we are excited to share the results of our creative endeavors.
In this season, we undertook the creation of final matte paintings, often leveraging our own concepts art as a foundation. This approach allowed us to efficiently repurpose our references and materials, including 3D assets and 2D photographs.
Among the more challenging tasks was the recreation of the St George Chapel stained glass, a DMP (Digital Matte Painting) utilized across multiple shots. This intricate process demanded a substantial overscan to seamlessly cover all scenes. The resulting asset played a pivotal role in ensuring the audience's immersion in the grand and emotionally charged final episode, where the Queen meticulously plans her own funeral within the majestic setting of St George Chapel.
